Story of Nageshwar Jyotirlinga

 A story is famous in relation to Nageshwar Jyotirlinga.  According to the legend, there was a merchant who believed in Dharma Karma.  He had unparalleled devotion to Lord Shiva.  Even after being busy in business work, he used to spend whatever time he had in worship, worship and meditation.  A demon named Daruk got angry with this devotion.  Being of demonic nature, Lord Shiva did not like him at all.   The demon was always in search of such an opportunity, that how he could obstruct the devotion of the merchant.  Once he was going somewhere on a business boat by merchant boat.  The demon saw this, and taking the opportunity, attacked the boat.  And took the passengers of the ferry to the capital and imprisoned them.  Even in captivity, the merchant used to regularly worship Lord Shiva.   Even in the prisoner's house, when the news of Shiva worship of the merchant reached that demon, he felt very bad.  In a fit of anger, he reached the merchant in the prison.  The merchant

Story of Somnath Jyotirlinga

There is a legend about the origin of Jyotirlinga.  According to the legend, King Daksha had married his twenty-seven daughters to Chand Dev.

  Dev was very happy to become the husband of twenty-seven girls.  All the girls were also happy with this marriage.  Among all these girls, Chandra Dev was most fascinated by a girl named Rohini.

  When Daksha came to know about this, he explained it to Chandra Dev.  But to no avail.  The effect of his explanation was that his attachment towards Rohini became more and more.

  After knowing this, King Daksha cursed Dev Chandra that, from today onwards you become a patient of tuberculosis.  Due to a curse, Dev Chandra suffered from tuberculosis.  His respect and influence also decreased.  To get rid of this curse, he went to the shelter of Lord Brahma.

  Brahma Dev told this remedy to get rid of this curse that the place where you have Somnath temple, came to that place and asked Chand Dev to do penance of Lord Shiva.  After worshiping Lord Shiva, as per the instructions of Lord Brahma, Chandra Dev became free from the curse.

  Since that time it is believed that Lord Chand Shiva had come to this place to do penance.  After the completion of penance, Lord Shiva asked Chandra Dev to ask for a boon.  On this, Chandra Dev asked for a boon that Lord, you free me from this curse.  And forgive all my transgressions.

  It was not possible even for Lord Shiva to end this curse completely.  The middle path was taken out, that the parties that happen in a month.  This curse will not remain in one Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha in one side.  But in this side, you will be affected by this curse.  They increase in one side in Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha, and decrease in the other.  Chandra Dev thanked Lord Shiva for receiving this grace.  And praised him.

  From that time the practice of worshiping Lord Shiva at this place started.  And Lord Shiva came to Somnath temple and became famous all over the world.  The deities also bow down to this place.  Chandra Dev is also situated at this place along with Lord Shiva.
