Story of Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga

 There is a mythological story on why Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga got the name Bhima Shankar. The story dates back to the Mahabharata period. The war of Mahabharata took place between Pandavas and Kauravas.

  This war had caused the loss of great heroes in India. Many Mahavirs and soldiers from both the sides had to give their lives in the war.

  Both the parties involved in this war received training from Guru Dronacharya. The place where Kauravas and Pandavas did the work of training both. He is the place.

  Today it is known as Ujjanak. Here today is the huge Jyotirlinga of Lord Mahadev's Bhimashankar. Some people also call this temple as Bhimashankar Jyotirling. Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga Story According to Shivpuran, the description of Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga is found in Shivpuran. It is said in Shiv Purana, that in olden times there was a demon named Bhima. He was the son of the demon Kumbhakarna. But he was born right after the death of his father. He was not aware of the incident of his father's death at the hands of Lord Rama.

  With the passage of time, when he came to know about this incident from his mother, he became eager to kill Lord Rama.

  To fulfill his purpose, he did severe penance for many years. Pleased with his penance, Brahma ji gave him the boon to be victorious.

  After getting the boon, the demon became autocratic. Along with humans, gods and goddesses also started to be afraid of him. Slowly his terror started being discussed everywhere. He also started defeating the gods in the war.

  Where he goes, the orgy of death starts happening. He stopped all other worship lessons. After getting very upset, all the gods went to the shelter of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva assured everyone that he would find a solution for this. Lord Shiva destroyed the demon. Lord Shiva was requested by all the gods that he should sit in the form of Shivling at this place. Lord Shiva accepted this prayer of his. And he is still seated here in the form of Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga.
