Story of Rameshwar Jyotirlinga

There is a legend about Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga. That when Lord Shri Ram was going to Ayodhya after liberating Sita from Ravana's captivity, at that time he stopped and rested on the Gandhamdan mountain on the way. After resting, he came to know that the sin of destroying the sage Pulastya clan is here. To avoid this curse, they should worship Lord Shiva by establishing a Jyotirlinga at this place.   After knowing this, Lord Shri Ram requested Hanuman to go to Mount Kailash and bring Shivling. Hanuman went to Mount Kailash after receiving the orders of Lord Rama, but he could not see Lord Shiva there. On this he chanted Lord Shiva carefully. After which Lord Shiva was pleased and appeared to him. And fulfilled the purpose of Hanuman ji.   Here Hanuman ji was delayed due to penance and to please Lord Shiva. And on the other hand Lord Rama and Goddess Sita keep waiting for the auspicious time for the establishment of Shivling. Due to the fear of missing the auspicious

Story of Ravana's Birth

When Shri Ram started ruling in Ayodhya, then one day all the sages and sages came to Ayodhyapuri to greet Shri Raghunathji. Shri Ramchandraji accorded them all the due hospitality. While talking, the sage Agastya started saying, the killing of Ravana in the war is not a big deal, but the most surprising thing is the killing of Indrajit by Lakshmana in a duel. This elusive demon was a devastation for all beings in the war. Hearing his words, Ramchandraji was very surprised. He said, Munivar Ravana and Kumbhakarna were also great mighty, then why do you praise only Indrajit Meghnad so much? Mahodar, Prahasta, Virupaksha were also no less brave.

On this Agastya Muni said, Before answering this question, I will tell you the details of Ravana's birth, groom, etc. Brahma ji had a son named Pulastya , who was as brilliant and virtuous as him. Once he went to Mahagiri to do penance. That place was very beautiful. That is why the daughters of sages, serpents, kings, etc. used to come there to play. This disturbed his penance. He forbade them to come there. When she did not agree, she cursed that the girl who will see me here from tomorrow will become pregnant. All the remaining girls stopped coming there, but the daughter of Rajarshi Trinabindu, being unaware of the curse, came to that ashram and became pregnant as soon as Maharishi saw her. When Trinabindu came to know about this, he offered his daughter to Maharishi as his wife. Thus was born Vishrava, who, like his father, was a virtuous and virtuous person. Mahamuni Bharadwaj married his daughter to Vishrava. They had a son named Vaishravana. He was also a pious and scholar. He pleased Brahma ji by doing heavy penance and got the position of Lokpal like Yama, Indra and Varuna. Then he made Lanka settled on Trikuta mountain as his abode and started ruling over the demons.

Shri Ram asked in surprise, did carnivorous demons live in Lanka before Kubera and Ravana? Who was his ancestor then? I am curious to hear this? Then Agastya ji said, in the past, Brahma ji created many water animals and asked them to protect the water of the sea. Then some of those animals said that we will protect it and some said that we will worship it. On this Brahma said that the one who protects will be called Rakshasa and the one who does Yaksha will be called Yaksha. Thus they were divided into two castes. Heti and Praheti were two brothers among the demons. Praheti went to do penance, but Heti married Bhaya, who gave birth to a son named Vidyutkesha. Vidyutkesh had a mighty son named Sukesh. Sukesh had three sons named Malyavan, Sumali and Mali. By doing penance of Brahma ji, all three got the boon that our love would be unbreakable and no one could defeat us. After getting the boon, he became fearless and started persecuting the suras and asuras. He asked Vishwakarma to build a very beautiful city. On this Vishwakarma sent him by telling him the address of Lankapuri. There they started living with great joy. Malyavan had seven sons named Vajramushti, Virupaksha, Durmukha, Suptaghan, Yagyakoppa, Matta and Unmatta. The Sumalis had ten sons named Prahastra, Akampana, Vikata, Kalikamukha, Dhumraksh, Danda, Suparshva, Sannadi, Pradhas and Bharakarna. Mali had four sons named Anal, Anil, Har and Sampati. Due to their strong and evil nature, they used to trouble the sages and sages. Being saddened by their sufferings, when the sages went to the shelter of Lord Vishnu, they assured that oh sages, I will definitely destroy these wicked people.

When the demons came to know about this assurance of Vishnu, they all organized and organized to attack Indraloka under the command of Mali. Hearing the news, Lord Vishnu took up his weapons and started killing the demons. Many demons including the commander Mali were killed and the rest fled towards Lanka. When Narayan started killing the fleeing demons too, Malyavan got angry and returned to the battlefield. In the end, at the hands of Lord Vishnu, he too became a waste of time. The remaining demons left Lanka under the leadership of Sumali and settled in the underworld and the kingdom of Kubera was established over Lanka. Now let me tell you the story of Ravana's birth. Saddened by the destruction of the demons, Sumali told his daughter Kaikasi that for the welfare of the daughter Rakshasa dynasty, I want you to go to the mighty Maharishi Vishrava and get a son from him. That son can protect us from the demons from the gods.

Agastya Muni continued to say, Kaikasi went to Vishrava on the orders of her father. At that time there was a severe storm. Clouds were thundering in the sky. Knowing the meaning of Kaikasi, Vishrava said that Bhadre, you have come to this Kubela. I will fulfill your wish, but this will make your children evil-tempered and cruel. Hearing the words of the sage, Kaikasi fell at his feet and said that Lord, you are a Brahmavadi Mahatma. I don't expect you to have such wicked children. So you have mercy on me. Hearing Kaikasi's words, Muni Vishrava said that well then your youngest son will be virtuous and pious.

Thus Kaikasi's ten-faced son was born, who was named Dashagriva. After that Kumbhakarna, Shurpanakha and Vibhishana were born. Dashagriva and Kumbhakarna were very evil, but Vibhishana was of a pious nature. In order to become more mighty and powerful than his brother Vaishravana, Dashagriva along with his brothers did penance to Brahma. On being pleased with Brahma, Dashagriva asked that I should become oblivious to Garuda, Nag, Yaksha, Daitya, Danava, Rakshasa and the Gods. Brahma ji fulfilled his wish by saying 'Tatastu'. Vibhishana got the boon of unsteady mind in religion and Kumbhakarna got the boon of sleeping for years.

Then Dashagriva forced King Kubera of Lanka to leave Lanka and hand over his kingdom to him. On the persuasion of his father Vishrava, Kubera left Lanka and Ravana lived in Lanka with his army, brothers and servants. After settling in Lanka, he married his sister Shurpanakha with the demon king Vidyuvihva, the son of Kalka. He himself married Mandodari, the daughter of Diti's son Maya, who was born from the womb of an Apsara named Hema. Kumbhakarna was married to Vajrajwala, the daughter of Virochanakumar Bali, and Vibhishana was married to Sarma, the daughter of Gandharvaraj Mahatma Shailush. After some time Mandodari gave birth to Meghnad, who defeated Indra and became famous in the world as Indrajit.

Ravana became disorderly due to power and started torturing the deities, rishis, Yakshas and Gandharvas in various ways. Once he attacked Kubera and defeated him in battle and as a memory of his victory captured Kubera's Pushpak Vimana. The velocity of that plane was as fast as the mind. He could take on a smaller or bigger form according to the people sitting above him. There were gems and gold stairs in the vimana and seats of heated gold were made. Sitting on that plane, when he was going through a huge forest of reeds known as Sharavan, Lord Shankar's councilor Nandishwar stopped him and said that Lord Shankar plays on the mountain situated in this forest, so here all the suras, asuras The coming of Yaksha etc. has been prohibited. Enraged by Nandishvara's words, Ravana got down from the plane and walked towards Lord Shankar. In order to stop him, Nandi stood like another Shiva with a prong in his hand at a distance from him. His face was like that of a monkey. Seeing him, Ravana burst out laughing. Enraged by this, Nandi said that Dashanan, you have disregarded my monkey form, so to destroy your clan, monkeys with mighty form and brilliance will be born like me. Ravana did not pay any attention to this and said that today I will uproot the mountain which has obstructed my plane's journey. Having said this, he tried to lift it by putting his hand at the bottom of the mountain. When the mountain started moving, Lord Shankar pressed the mountain with his toe. Due to this, Ravana's hand was badly suppressed and he started crying in pain. When he could not remove his hand in any way, he started weeping and praying to Lord Shankar for forgiveness. On this, Lord Shankar forgave him and on his request also gave him a stone named Chandrahas.

Agastya Muni further said, one day while traveling in the Himalayan region, Ravana saw Amit Tejashwi, the daughter of Brahmarishi Kushadhwaj, doing penance. Seeing that, he was enchanted and came to her and asked her introduction and the reason for being unmarried. After introducing herself, Vedavati told that my father wanted me to marry Vishnu. Enraged by this, the demon king Shambhu, who wished for me, killed him in his sleep. On his death, my mother also got sad and entered the pyre. Since then I am doing penance to Lord Vishnu to fulfill my father's wish. I have accepted him as my husband.

First Ravana tried to woo Vedavati into talks, then he grabbed her hair to force her. Vedavati cut the hair holding it in one stroke. Then she entered the fire saying that evil you have insulted me. At this time I am giving up this body, but to destroy you I will take birth again. In the next life, I will be born as Ayonija girl and become the daughter of a godly person. In the next birth, that girl was born as a lotus. One day Ravana took that beautiful lotus girl to his palaces. Seeing her, the astrologers said that Rajan, if this lotus girl stays in your house, then she will be the cause of destruction of you and your family. Hearing this, Ravana threw him into the sea. From there she attained the land and reached the central part of the Yagya Mandap of King Janak. There the girl was again obtained from the land which was plowed by the king with a plow. The same Vedavati became your wife in the form of Sita and you are the eternal Vishnu yourself. Thus your great enemy Ravana was already killed by Vedavati with her curse. You were just an instrument in killing him.

After defeating many kings, Dashagriva reached Anaranya, the king of Ikshvaku dynasty who ruled Ayodhya. He also challenged them to fight duel or accept defeat. There was a fierce battle between the two, but due to the boon of Brahma, Ravana could not be defeated by them. When Anaranya's body was badly mutilated, Ravana started insulting and ridiculing the Ikshvaku dynasty. Angered by this, Anaranya cursed him that you have insulted the Ikshvaku dynasty with your sarcastic words, so I curse you that Dasharathanandan Rama will be born in this lineage of Mahatma Ikshvaku who will kill you. Saying this the king went to heaven.

Ravana's arrogance did not diminish. The demon or man, whomever he found powerful, would go and fight with him. Once he heard that King Bali of Kishkindhapuri was very strong and mighty, so he went to fight with him. Bali's wife Tara, Tara's father Sushen, Yuvraj Angad and his brother Sugriva explained to him that at this time Bali had gone out of the city for sandhyapasana. Only they can fight with you. And there is no monkey so mighty that can fight with you. So you wait for them for a while. Then Sugriva said that the conch-like bones that are piled up in front of the demon king belong to heroes like you who came out of the desire to fight with Bali. Bali has put an end to all this. Even if you had come after drinking nectar, the moment you hit Bali, that moment would be the last moment of your life. If you are in a hurry to die, go to the shores of the South Sea. There you will get to see Bali. Hearing the words of Sugriva, Ravana boarded the plane and immediately reached the place in the South Sea where Bali was doing evening. He thought that I would silently attack Bali. Bali saw Ravana coming but he did not get disturbed at all and kept on reciting Vedic mantras. As Ravana extended his hand from behind to catch him, the alert Bali grabbed him and pressed him into his armpit and flew into the sky. Ravana repeatedly poked Bali with his nails, but Bali did not care for him. Then Ravana's ministers and attendants ran after him shouting to rescue him, but they could not reach Bali. Thus Bali reached the shores of the Western Sea with Ravana. There he completed his sandhyapaasana. Then he returned to Kishkindhapuri with Dashanan. Sitting on a pedestal in his garden, he took out Ravana from his armpit and asked that now, who are you and why have you come?

Ravana replied that I am Ravana, the king of Lanka. came to fight with you. I got that war. I have seen your amazing power. Now I want to befriend you by witnessing the fire. Then both of them established friendship with each other by witnessing the fire.
