Story of Nageshwar Jyotirlinga

A story is famous in relation to Nageshwar Jyotirlinga.  According to the legend, there was a merchant who believed in Dharma Karma.  He had unparalleled devotion to Lord Shiva.  Even after being busy in business work, he used to spend whatever time he had in worship, worship and meditation.  A demon named Daruk got angry with this devotion.  Being of demonic nature, Lord Shiva did not like him at all.   The demon was always in search of such an opportunity, that how he could obstruct the devotion of the merchant.  Once he was going somewhere on a business boat by merchant boat.  The demon saw this, and taking the opportunity, attacked the boat.  And took the passengers of the ferry to the capital and imprisoned them.  Even in captivity, the merchant used to regularly worship Lord Shiva.   Even in the prisoner's house, when the news of Shiva worship of the merchant reached that demon, he felt very bad.  In a fit of anger, he reached the merchant in the prison.  The merchant

Shiva-Parvati Marriage

When the news of Sati having consumed herself in Yogagri reached Shivaji.  Then Shiva sent Virbhadra.  They went there and destroyed the yajna and gave due fruits to all the gods.  While dying, Sati asked Shiva for this boon that you should be my husband in every birth.  For this reason he went to Himachal's house and took the birth of Parvati.

Ever since Parvati was born in Himachal's house, happiness and wealth prevailed in her house.  With the arrival of Parvati, the mountain became beautiful.  When Narad ji heard all this news, he reached Himachal.  After reaching there, he met Himachal and laughingly said that your daughter is a mine of virtues.  It is beautiful, gentle and calm in nature.  This girl is full of good qualities.  It will be dear to her husband.

Now listen to the two or four demerits in it.  Virtuous, defiant, parentless, indifferent, careless.  Her husband will be naked, Yogi, Jatadhari and one who will wear snakes around his neck.

Hearing this, Parvati's parents got worried.  He asked Devarshi its solution.  Then Narad ji said that all the faults that I have told, according to my guess, are in Shiva.  If one gets married with Shiva, then these defects will become like gunas.

If your daughter does penance, then only Shiva can change her fate.  Hearing this, Parvati's mother became distraught.  He told Parvati's father that you will marry your daughter in a favorable house because Parvati is dearer to me than life.  Seeing Parvati, my throat swelled.  Parvati said to her mother, mother, a Brahmin has told me in a dream that whatever Naradji has said, consider it to be true and do penance.  This penance is the destroyer of sorrows for you.  After that, after explaining to the parents with great pleasure, Parvati went to do penance.

Parvati started penance to get Shiva as her husband.  But Shiva was never interested in worldly bonds, so Parvati did a very severe penance so that Shiva would be pleased and marry her.

When Saptarishi went to test Sati

Saptarishi went to Parvati and asked for whom are you doing such hard penance.  Then Parvati said hesitantly, you will laugh at my stupidity.  I want to make Shiva my husband.  After listening to Parvati, all the sages started laughing and said that you have considered Shiva as your husband after listening to the teachings of Narada, who destroys everything.  By believing in their words, you want a husband who is indifferent by nature, without virtue, shameless, bad dress, without a house, naked and wearing snakes on the body. Tell me what happiness you will get by meeting such a groom.

Now we are told as if we have chosen a very good groom for you.  The groom we have chosen for you is the lord of Lakshmi and a resident of Vaikunthapuri.  Then Parvati after listening to him said that my stubbornness is also as strong as a mountain.  I have lost this birth for Shiva.  I will have this insistence for crores of births.  Hearing this talk of Parvati, all the sages said that you are Maya and Shiva is God.  You both are the parents of the whole world.

Saying this the Saptarishi bowed down to Parvati and left from there.

Parvati's firm loyalty won Shiva's mind

After years of penance, one day a celibate came to Parvatiji.  Before accepting the prayer of celibate ascetic Parvati, he said - Is a sweet lady like you worthy of penance?  I have meditated for a long time.  If you want, take half or all of my penance, but you don't do penance so hard.  If you want, Lord Vishnu, the lord of Tribhuvan also...  But Parvati showed such neglect that the brahmachari stopped for two moments.

Then said - three qualities are seen in a worthy groom - beauty, nobility and wealth.  Shiva does not have any of these three.  Do you see beauty somewhere in Neelkanth, Trilochan, Jatadhari, Vibhuti's grandson, Shiva wrapped in a snake?  What to say about their wealth, they remain naked.  If enough, then the skin (leather) was wrapped.  No one knows how they originated.

The brahmachari did not know what he kept saying, but Parvati did not like the condemnation of his adoration.  So she got up to go elsewhere.  Then Shiva, seeing his loyalty, appeared as a celibate and married him.  Where there is perseverance, courage to endure hardships and unwavering self-confidence, the goal is definitely achieved.
