Result of penance:

Mother Parvati was doing severe penance to get Lord Shankar as her husband. His penance was towards perfection. At one time she was sitting in meditation in the contemplation of God. At the same time they heard the cry of a boy drowning. Mother immediately got up and reached there. He saw a crocodile dragging the boy under the water.

The boy is trying to save his life, and the crocodile tries to feed him. The compassionate mother felt pity on the child. He requested the crocodile to leave the child and not make it food. The crocodile said mother, this is my diet, which I get first for stomach fulfillment every sixth day, my diet is fixed by Brahma. Mother said again that you leave it, instead I will give the fruit of my penance. Grah said ok. At the same time, the mother resolved and gave the virtuous fruit of her entire penance to that planet.

After receiving the fruits of his penance, the planet shone like the sun. His intellect also became pure. Where did he, mother, take back your virtue? I will leave this boy alone. The mother refused and taking the child in her lap, Mamtamayi mother started caressing her. After returning the child safely, the mother returned to her place and started penance. Lord Shiva immediately appeared there, and said Parvati, now you do not need to do penance. I reside in every living being, you gave the fruit of penance to that planet, it was received by me only. Therefore, the fruit of your penance has multiplied infinitely. You have protected any living being out of compassion, so I am happy on you and accept you as my wife.

The gist of the story is that one who wishes for the best. The infinite grace of God is on him. The person who is kind, loving, compassionate, helping the helpless. God accepts him. This story is mentioned in the Shiva Purana.
